The key to making this drink delicious is to be patient. After you brew the Thai tea mix, make sure to allow it to cool completely or have it chilled. That way it doesn’t melt the ice and you get all the flavors.

How to Make Keto Thai Iced Tea: Sugar Free

  • We have some recommended Thai tea mixes that taste just like what you order at restaurants.
  • You can use sugar free or keto friendly sugar substitutes like: monk fruit with erythritol, stevia, Sucralose (Splenda). Make sure you check the your specific package for sugar substitute amounts, as they will all vary, even between the same kinds of sweetener and sometime between a brands own products. This recipe is based off the equivalent to 3/4 cup of sugar.
  • Customize your sweetness. After you brew your first batch, you’ll know if you want it make it less sweet or more sweet.
  • Allow the brewed tea to completely cool so that it doesn’t melt the ice and dilute the flavors. You can even make it overnight or several days ahead and leave chilled in the fridge.
  • Add your favorite unsweetened creamer like: half and half, milk or even coconut milk if you like those flavors.

Please read the post about this Thai tea recipe. It discusses the brands as well as photographs to illustrate the process. When we made our Thai Tea mix from the Cha Thai Tea Mix, we reduced their suggested sweetness amount by about 20% to our own personal taste.

Sugar-free sweeteners: Sugar-free sweeteners have many different sugar substitution ratios (different between different kinds and even the same kind but different brands). Use the substition ratio based off of the exact sweetener you are using (check the back of your packaging) to be equivalent to 3/4 cup of sugar, or sweetened to your personal preference.

  • Allow tea to steep for at least 30 minutes and to cool. The more concentrated the tea flavor, the better the Thai tea tastes.

  • Strain the tea leaves (we love using these reusable cloth filters). Set finished Thai tea aside to cool completely. You can make this ahead of time and have the Thai tea chilling in the fridge. We usually like to make this tea mix one day ahead.

  • Fill glasses with ice and pour in Thai tea leaving enough room to fill in your half and half (or other creamer). For an 12 oz. glass filled with ice cubed, we like to add about 2-3 tablespoons of half and half for a creamier flavor.
