How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (2024)

A good portion of the characters in Naruto had their heights confirmed at various times throughout the shows 15 years on the air.

Other characters’ heights are easy to guess based on those confirmations.

In the original Naruto series, Naruto Uzumaki starts at 4’9″ (144.8 cm) and grows to be 4’10” (147.3 cm) in the years that the series takes place.

Then, at the beginning of Naruto: Shippuden and when 2 years have passed, Naruto is 5’6″ (167.6 cm).

As for the rest of the members of Team 7, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno both start and end the show at the same height: 4’11” (149.9 cm) – 5″ (152.4 cm).

But by Naruto: Shippuden, Sasuke has grown to be 5’6″ (167.6 cm) while Sakura is only 5’3″ (160 cm).

Orochimaru is the only character in the whole series that shrinks between Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, from 5’10” (177.8 cm) to 5’7″ (170.2 cm).

Naruto is the longest-running anime, split into two main parts. The original Naruto series ran from 2002 to 2007 and followed Naruto’s journey from 12 to 13.

Naruto: Shippuden is a continuation of the original Naruto series, taking place two and a 1/2 years after the original series has ended.

It picks up when Naruto is 15 and takes place over two years.

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (2)

Naruto was born as the jinchūriki (or possessor) of the Nine-Tails. This is due to his father’s sacrifice fighting the previous Nine-Tails before Naruto was born. However, his title as the Nine-Tails meant that he was shunned by most of Konohagakure (Konoha).

The people of Konoha do come around to Naruto, seeing him as their hero after he trains to become one of the most powerful ninjas ever, joining Team 7.

His special access to Kurama – via his Nine-Tails powers – allows him to become so skilled in the first place. He can harness powers no other ninja his age can use.

Naruto plays an instrumental part in not just ending but winning the Fourth Shinobi World War. By the end of Naruto: Shippuden, he is known worldwide as a hero and can finally become Konoha’s Seventh Hokage (Fire Shadow).

Jiraiya

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (3)

Jiraiya remains 6’3″ (190.5 cm) throughout the Naruto series as he is already in his 50’s.

From the beginning of part 1, Jiraiya is already an established legend. Specifically, he is one of Konoha’s three Sannin (legendary ninjas).

He passes his lessons and teachings onto his Godson – Naruto – after traveling the world on a hunt for knowledge. However, he becomes more of a hermit after completing his journey.

It was during his travels that Jiraiya developed a transparency technique. This allowed him to spy on women, pinning him as a peeping tom in his older age.

Sasuke Uchiha

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (4)

Sasuke Uchiha is 4’11” (149.9 cm) at the start of part 1, only growing to be 5″ (152.4 cm) by the end of part 1. At the beginning of part 2, Sasuke has grown to be the same height as Naruto: 5’6″ (167.6 cm). In Boruto, Sasuke has grown yet again and now matches Naruto’s height of 5’11” (180.3 cm).

After his older brother kills the rest of the Uchiha clan, Sasuke decides the only way he can avenge his clan is to become a ninja. When he completes his training, Sasuke joins Team 7.

However, despite his naturally strong chakra, Sasuke becomes frustrated with his lack of progress while training with Team 7 in Konoha. So, he decides to leave Team 7 and his best friends behind to embark on his own journey.

This choice leads to a life of isolation, eventually turning Sasuke into an international criminal. But after learning the truth about his brother’s actions, he plays an integral part in ending the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Fighting alongside Naruto, Sasuke is redeemed from his criminal arc and returns home to dedicate his life to his people.

Sakura Haruno

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (5)

At the beginning of part 1, Sakura Haruno is 4’11” (149.9 cm), growing to be 5″ (152.4 cm) by the end of it like Sasuke. However, Sakura doesn’t grow to be as tall as her teammates, only ending up 5’3″ (160 cm) by the beginning of part 2. Sakura only grows an inch by the beginning of Boruto: 5’5″ (165.1 cm).

Sakura is not at all confident in her ninja abilities at the beginning of her journey. When she joins Team 7 along with Naruto and Sasuke, she becomes even less sure if she is ready to take on the responsibilities of being a shinobi.

For this reason, she mostly keeps out of fights and relies on her chakra control to see her through Naruto part 1.

Her insecurities lead to a lack of emotional understanding, often treating Team 7 poorly. But in the 2 and 1/2 years between part 1 and part 2, Sakura understands her emotions better and becomes more protective of Naturo and Sasuke.

Sakura also spends those years training under Tsunade to develop her ability to heal wounds and harness supernatural strength. Her new abilities and sudden shows of emotion often lead to impulsive decisions, putting herself and her team in unnecessary danger.

Kakashi Hatake

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (6)

Kakashi Hatake is 5’11” (180.3 cm) from the beginning of part 1 until the end of part 2. This is because he is already 26 at the beginning of part 1, so is fully grown to begin with.

Though he prefers to lead a carefree life with no responsibility, Kakashi is credited with being one of the most talented ninjas in Konoha. Other ninjas and non-ninjas constantly seek him out for advice and guidance.

Kakashi is appointed the leader of Team 7 (Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke) and teaches them the importance of teamwork. Kakashi himself came to understand the importance of his team via his childhood friend, Obito Uchiha.

Throughout Konoha, Kakashi is referred to as Kakashi of the Sharingan. This is because of the Sharingan eye Obito gave to Kakashi as a replacement for his left eye sometime during the Third Shinobi World War.

This gave him most of his abilities, such as copying any movement he sees and having an extended view of the world around him. But it is his actions and personal development that lead to Kakashi becoming the Sixth Hokage at the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Itachi Uchiha

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (7)

Itachi Uchiha is 5’8″ (172.7 cm) in part 1, growing to 5’10” (177.8 cm) in part 2 as he matures from teen to adult.

From the beginning, Itachi is shown to be a determined, insightful character. He was the shinobi of the Uchiha clan alongside being an Anbu captain. However, unlike the rest of the Uchiha clan, Itachi was not arrogant about his skills.

He was one of the only people in Konoha that didn’t mistreat Naruto for being the bearer of the Nine-Tails.

Itachi’s violence and murder of the whole Uchiha clan spurred his younger brother (Sasuke) into a spiral of vengeance. But Itachi’s intentions were not what they seemed to be, even if his actions after the events at Uchiha suggest otherwise, such as getting caught up in the Akatuski – an international criminal gang.

He wants only to protect Sasuke. Every action and choice he makes throughout the show reflects this goal. Unfortunately, it was only once he has died and been reincarnated that Itachi realized that his carefully laid out plans failed to protect Sasuke.

Hinata Hyūga

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (8)

Hinata Hyūga starts the series at 4’9″ (144.8 cm), only growing an inch – 4’10” (147.3 cm) – by the end of part 1. She does shoot up to 5’2 (157.5 cm) at the beginning of part 2, having left her tweens behind. Once Boruto begins, Hinata is 5’3″ (160 cm).

Though a ninja of Konoha just like Naruto and the rest of his friends, Hinata has a more unique past. She was once the heiress of the Hyūga clan but was forced out of the role after the clan decided she was unfit.

Her determination found her membership as a Team 8 member, admiring Naruto’s advanced capabilities and learning her own through her team. Hinata also found guidance in her cousin Neji who helped her to understand her abilities.

As a member of the Hyūga clan, Hinata has the hereditary dōjutsu of Byakūgan, which allows her to see farther and in more detail than other Team members. By the end of part 1, her clan’s faith and her own faith in herself are restored.

Still, Hinata continues to grow in strength and as a person well into part 2.

Her main motivations and drive turned from an inward need to prove herself to a desire to care for Naruto. A few years after the Fourth World War, Hinata and Naruto get married.

Neji Hyūga

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (9)

In part 1, Neji Hyūga is 5’2 (157.5 cm) and grows to be 5’8″ (172.7 cm) by the beginning of part 2. This makes him just a little bit taller than Naruto and Sasuke. He is a year older than them, starting part 2 at 17 years old, so the slight height difference makes sense.

Like many of the Hyūga clan, Neji is in possession of the Byakugan. Even by Hyūgan standards, Neji is a prodigy. But it is not until he meets Naruto that he is able to realize his full potential.

Before meeting Naruto, Neji served the main Hyūgan house and was not permitted to advance his abilities further than his required status.

Naruto shows him just how free and powerful he can be. So, Neji leaves his servitude and becomes a member of Team Guy to shape his own future.

Gaara

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (10)

Gaara begins part 1 measuring 4’9″ (144.8 cm), growing a little through Naruto to 4’10” (147.3 cm). By the beginning of part 2, Gaara is 5’5″ (165.1 cm). In Boruto, Gaara is 5’7″ (170.2 cm). Despite being the same age, he doesn’t grow to be as tall as many of the other main characters in the years between part 1 and part 2.

Unlike many of the other shinobi in Naruto, Gaara is a shinobi from Sunagakure. He was made from the power of the One-Tailed Shukaku which led to him being an outcast within his village, similar to Naruto.

However, unlike Naruto, Gaara does not take his status very well. He turns his hatred towards, hurting and killing anyone in his path just for the sake of it. This doesn’t change until Naruto faces off with Gaara and completely defeats him.

Humbled and on the path to changing his ways, Gaara decides to use his One-Tail powers to become the Sunagakure’s fifth Kazekage (the fifth Wind Shadow). Though wary at first, the village does come to accept Gaara slowly.

Rock Lee

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (11)

Rock Lee begins part 1 at 5’2″ (157.5 cm), growing to be 5’3″ (160 cm). He does have a noticeable growth spurt of 5’7″ (170.2 cm) which is seen at the beginning of part 2. Rock Lee is 5’8″ (172.7 cm) in Boruto.

Rock maintain his energetic, good-guy personality even though he does grow to be taller than Naruto in part 2.

Compared to other Team members, Rock is at a disadvantage. He does not have ninjutsu or genjutsu abilities and is unable to develop them. That is why he goes the extra mile and puts himself through taijutsu training with Might Guy as his teacher.

Rock forces himself to grow as a ninja but hardly ever lets his vigorous training change his loving personality.

Orochimaru

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (12)

Starting part 1 at 5’10” (177.8 cm), Orochimaru is the only character who shrinks in size, ending up at 5’7″ (170.2 cm) by part 2.

Like Jiraiya, Orochimaru is one of Konoha’s legendary Sannins, but has a much more twisted agenda. Though Orochimaru spent his life seeking knowledge of the world, it wasn’t to write novels like in Jiraiya’s case. Instead, he wanted to unlock the secrets of the world at any cost.

To do this, Orochimaru decided he must become immortal in order to give himself multiple lifetimes to explore the world.

Conducting experimental and unethical immortality trials, Orochimaru harms multiple villagers, eventually having to leave Konoha to avoid criminalization.

It was this experience that fulled his need to destroy Konoha as a means to prove his capabilities. It took several deaths for Orochimaru to realize the flaws in his immortality plans.

Tsunade Senju

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (13)

From the start of part 1 until the end of part 2, Tsunade Senju remains 5’4″ (162.6 cm). She is one of the older characters of the Naruto series and is the strongest Kunoichi within the Naruto world. Tsunade is so strong, in fact, that she can crack the earth with her bare hands.

However, Tsunade’s abilities are not limited to her physical skills. She is also well known throughout the world as being the best medicine nin.

Her ancestry leading back to both the Senju and Uzumaki clans makes her an extremely powerful force within her areas of focus. Her abilities are why she is the third and final Sannin of Konoha.

When Tsunade gave up the ninja lifestyle after losing one too many loved ones, she left Konoha altogether. But upon meeting Naruto and his abundance of optimism, she returns to Konoha as the Fifth Hokage where her powers make her an invaluable asset to the village.

Madara Uchiha

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (14)

Madara Uchiha is not fully introduced until Naruto: Shuppiden in which he is 5’10” (177.8 cm) – as tall as Itachi Uchiha in part 2.

We are first introduced to Madara in episode 18, season 6 of Naruto: Shippuden. The episode is titled The Man Who Became God, which is the perfect way to introduce Madara.

Once a legendary leader of the Uchiha clan, Madara was responsible for finding Konohagkure along with his best friend Hashirama Senju.

Their intent was to build a place where they could create peace in a war-torn world. But after not being able to agree on how to find that peace, Madara and Hashirama fought.

This fight ended in Madara’s death… supposedly. He actually went into hiding to work on his plans of peace without the interference of others. All of these plans he passed onto Obito once Madara really does die.

He is resurrected years later to see how his plans have come to fruition but is met only with disappointment. Madara sees firsthand the mistakes of his quest for peace, getting to reconcile with Hashirama before eventually dying a final death.

Obito Uchiha

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (15)

In part 1, Obito Uchiha is 5″ (152.4 cm). In part 2, he starts at 5’8″ (172.7 cm) and grows to be taller than any other character at 5’11” (180.3 cm).

After the end of the Third Shinobi World War, Obito is thought to be dead, having passed on his Sharinga legacy to Kakashi Hatake before supposedly dying.

That is why when it is revealed that Obito was saved by Madara, is it an unexpected twist.

During his time with Madara, Obito is groomed into thinking that the world has changed for the worse since the end of the war. He is essentially brainwashed by Madara so that he will carry out Madara’s plans for peace.

When living with Madara, Obito went by the cover name Tobi. But once Madara’s plan is ready to be put into place, Obito exposes himself publically, taking control of the Akatuski and starting the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Nagato

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (16)

Nagato is introduced as a new character in part 2, where he remains 5’9″ (175.3 cm) throughout Naruto: Shippuden. His debut episode is Tales Of A Gutsy Ninja – Jiraiya Ninja Scroll – Part 2 (season 6, episode 16).

Despite being a descendent of Uzumaki, Nagato was a shinobi of Amegakure. He set out to find a place of peace with his childhood friends Yahiko and Konan.

Eventually, after finding Akatuski, the plan was to create a place where the shinobi lifestyle didn’t need to be so violent.

After Yahiko’s death and Nagato’s unmerciful plan for peace that he and Konan forced onto the world, Nagato remains generally kind. He forces his ideas on other people, but he only kills if they interfere with his plans. Like when he kills Akashi.

Minato Namikaze

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (17)

Minato Namikaze was 5’10” (177.8 cm) in the few times we see him in part 1. However, his appearances are few as he dies before the events of part 1.

It was Minato’s sacrifice fighting the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox while his wife was pregnant with Naruto that then lead to Naruto gaining the powers of the Nine-Tails. Only Minato was able to fight off the Nine-Tails.

Minato was the fourth Hokage of Konoha but was more popularly known as the Yellow Flash of Konoha throughout the rest of the world.

It was his sacrifice and legacy that pushed Naruto to become a ninja in the first place and that sets the events of the series into motion.

Kabuto Yakushi

How Tall Are the Naruto Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (18)

In part 1, Kabuto Yakushi is 5’9″ (175.3 cm). He only grows an inch in the 2 years between parts 1 and 2 (5’10” (177.8 cm)), but as a character, he grows considerably.

It is not his fighting skills that make Kabuto a great ninja, rather his intelligence. This and his medical competency is why Orochimarus employed a young Kabuto as a strong ally.

Eventually growing tired of serving other people, Kabuto decided to make a life of his own and to serve himself. His calculated approach allowed him to hold his own in a fight and become a key part of the Fourth Shinobi World War on his quest for identity and power.

Though it takes time and a lot of mistakes, Kabuto is able to find his identity with the help of Itachi.

Kabuto pays back Itachi by traveling through the war to save Sasuke and healing him, allowing Sasuke to live to see another day.
